Review of Just Planes’ Virgin Blue 737 DVD

Imagine you were given the opportunity to sit on the flight deck of a number of Virgin Blue 737 flights around Australia, this would be the video you would take. While not as technically in depth as the new ITTV Cockpit DVDs we’ve recently added, this is our most popular DVD as it provides a view of the flying that’s going on around Australia as you read this. The familiar landscape, accents and procedures of Australian commercial flying certainly help to make this a fun DVD to watch.

Watch the professional Virgin Blue aircrews in action as you fly with them on a 737-700 from Brisbane to Melbourne and then on to Launceston. You also get to fly on a 737-400 from Brisbane to Sydney, on to the Gold Coast, back to Sydney and then return to Brisbane. The difference in cockpit equipment between the -700 & -400 is quite obvious.

The flights on this DVD were taken in the first year or two of Virgin Blue’s operations providing us with a the look back in time to when VB was still using secondary terminal space at Melbourne & Sydney and hadn’t yet taken over the terminals previously being used by Ansett. In addition to the cockpit videos there is also footage taken in passenger seats for flights from Launceston to Melbourne and on to Brisbane, a promotional piece on Brisbane and an interview with Captain John Raby, Director of Flight Operations at Virgin Blue.

This is a fun DVD to add to your collection, letting you into the cockpit with Virgin Blue as they fly around Australia. It is especially interesting for its look back in time to get an appreciation for how much has changed since then.
