At the end of January, we opened up our simulator to our Facebook fans able to get to Melbourne CBD for the duration of the open night. In addition to flights in the simulator, the event featured drinks, nibbles, instructors to chat with and the guys from the Plane Crazy Down Under podcast who were interviewing attendees.
We kept the simulator busy giving everyone their flights and were still flying after the official closing time. Many of the attendees were aviation enthusiasts under 18 who came with their parents. For some they just wanted to see what it was like while others were already taking steps towards their pilot’s license and had their goals set to fly commercially.
A computer was set up where flyers could login to their Facebook account and post updates about the event. Most took advantage of the moment to comment and link a photo of themselves in the cockpit.
People were coming in & out all through the night, including some folks who saw the activity and walked in to see what was happening. One lucky couple who dropped in to chat even got to sit in the jump seats to watch the last flight of the night.
All up it was a great night and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. We’re probably going to run another similar event in the near future so watch this space for notification about it.
