Retail education from the cockpit
Outside the world of flying 737 simulators, Check Captain Carlo is also a successful entrepreneur with a background in retail and a company that specialises in supplying IT and web based systems, equipment & services to retailers (
RetailCare). He was recently to be found on the cockpit of
our 737 simulator discussing retail challenges with David Barnes from
Platform Interactive while also instructing him on the finer points of flying into Kai Tak and Las Vegas (did we mention Carlo can multi-task exceptionally well?)
David and Carlo are both members of Entrepreneur’s Organisation (EO), a dynamic network of business owners. David has written about his experience and some of the retail challenges that were discussed on his blog. No matter what industry sector you’re in, the skills associated with flying a 737 can certainly help to stretch your abilities and give you a boost to face the challenges in the world outside the cockpit.
For many of us, we get on an airliner and get off it again at the other end, but what about the pilots? Certainly on some flights they get off as well, but in many cases they stay on board, preparing the aircraft for its next leg and then taking a new load of passengers to another destination.
This is called “Flying the Line” and it’s what pilots are doing every day around the world. It can be demanding and it is definitely draining, requiring that pilots maintain their concentration through out multiple take offs, cruise legs and landings.
